Cultural week in Nigeria
The Cultural week is a week long event that
showcases the rich culture of Nigeria as well as our beautiful
countryside. The event is to take place in four states: Oyo,
Osun, Ogun and Lagos States.

Arrival is on sunday in Lagos state. You can
arrive before depending on your flight day but not after as
we'll be leaving that state and no one will be able to pick
you up from the airport.
The event starts officially on monday in Ibadan
(Oyo state). First we are to have a tour of our faculty and
we have the opening ceremony later. The opening ceremony is
going to be the very beginning of your exposure to Nigerian
culture.
On tuesday we travel to Osun state. There
we are to see 7 waterfalls each at the top of a mountain,
this means we have seven mountains to climb before we can
see it all. Please start getting yourselves fit because it's
not such an easy task we have ahead of us. The wonderful thing
about it all is that babes don't have to go beyond the third
but no guy is allowed to stop before the fourth. The challenge
is that no one visiting the waterfalls has ever reached the
seventh waterfall except the natives living at the top of
the seventh mountain. If anyone can manage it you get to see
raw Nigerian culture.
On wednesday we travel to Ogun state and Guess
what? We are going walking in a forest that we are told has
some wild lives residing there. So please leave your hearts
at home, I'll be doing same, and be prepared for real adventure.
On thursday we travel to Badagry in Lagos
state. We'll visit the Oba's (king's) palace, beach, slave
relics and other beautiful places. At night we plan to have
a mix of the cultures of those present. So be prepared, bring
something of your culture along with you.
On our last night in Lagos we are promising
you a night out with one of our popular musicians. It's going
to be a live performance and he is also masked in our cultural
attire.
On saturday we'll be sad to see you go but
you all just have to back but we hope to see you all soon
after.
By the way, any girl interested in having
her hair weaved is in luck. If you wish to have a temporary
tattoo, that is tattoo in the Nigerian way, i guess its your
lucky trip. If you wish to laze on a beach you are also a
very lucky person. Aren't we all very lucky having all our
dreams come true all in one trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most of all
we promise to give you the most cultural souvenirs you have
ever seen much less been given for free on any known ivsa
event.
Did I mention that we plan to take your breath
away. I hope we have succeded thus far and you are just catching
your breath back. Just come and have fun.
These pics show how the different tribes
in Nigeria are dressed. The pic at the top is that of the
Ibo tribe and the lady is greeting her husband who happens
to be the king (Obi) and she is the Lolo s(queen). While the
second is of the Yoruba tribe.

These pics show how the Urhobo tribe (at the
top) and the Benin tribe (below) dress. The benin woman is
covering her mouth as a sign of respect to her husband and
position, she is the queen.
These pics are of a dance drama that show some dance steps
of the yoruba tribe. It also shows how they dress.

The 1st pic shows us with the Oba(king) of
Oyo when we visited his palace and we all had to take off
our shoes. By the way the king is dressed traditionally.

This picture was taken at the peak of a rock
called Olumo rock. only a few of us could get to the top and
it was mostly thanks to John. It was no easy feat getting
there.

Pic 7.) The 1st pic is also that of the group
with the peak at the background. while the 2nd shows the veiw
of the rock from below. I didnt mention this before but natives
took refuge under this rock during a war. We saw the caves
they lived in but i don't have the pic now. You should see
it later on our website.
Pic 8.) These pics show us having a nice time
dancing to some Nigerian music in our Cultural attire. I hope
you can see John dancing the Nigerian way.

These pics show how the people of the Hausa
tribe dress and dance
